Playford Alive Uniting Church

The Uniting Church in Australia opens its new landmark worship centre in Playford, South Australia

Hodgkison is proud to have provided the architectural, project management and interior design skills for this brand new community facility serving Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
An inspiring project comprising the development of a new Worship and Community centre and accommodating a growing congregation of the Uniting Church as well as providing a venue for various community based activities.

The facility includes a contemporary worship space, administration and support offices, kitchen facilities, outdoor play areas, community garden and various multi-function spaces to serve the needs of the Church and the local community.
Our objective was to create a building that would provide a new home for the congregation which until now had been worshipping in rented facilities. This adaptive and versatile building now provides a base for local community interaction and support through various programs and activities. Emphasis is also placed on ease of maintenance of the building and low energy usage.

Oka Tepinyaki Restaurant Darwin Design by Hodgkison Architects

Hodgkison restaurant design features in Darwin Life Magazine

Oka Teppanyaki, proudly designed by our talented Darwin team is now open in Parap Village.

This sensational new restaurant draws inspiration from a traditional Japanese palette, providing Darwin with a unique dining experience.

The aim for the design of OKA Teppanyaki was to design a contemporary restaurant drawing inspiration from a traditional Japanese palette with an emphasis on nature. A 3D contoured feature wall gives a sense of life and a backdrop in front of which the Teppanyaki chefs can put on their show. Clean white ceilings contrast darker environmentally friendly Jarrah timber flooring and a full glass shopfront with maximised ceiling heights create light and spaciousness.

UniSA Hodgkison Prize in Architecture

Hodgkison continues its support of student excellence through the annual UniSA Hodgkison Prize in Architecture. The 2014 prize was awarded to Waleed Moughraby at the University of South Australia Student Prize Ceremony held in December.

Waleed’s design for a Hospice, Plant Science Research Centre and Public Retreat within Sydney Harbour utilises architecture to address the elemental relationship between people and their environment. Anchored on Sharks Island, the building’s “presence” as a landscaped platform within the harbour creates an extension of the island’s topography whilst retaining much of the island in its delicate natural state. We congratulate Waleed on an exceptional design scheme demonstrating strong integration of technical and environmental elements.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish all our valued Clients and Industry Partners a Happy New Year and all the very best for 2015.
